The project has been strengthening the operational capacity of the Military Fire Department of the State of Pará (CBMPA) for the prevention and suppression of forest fires and unauthorized burning in the Amazon.
The project is structured into two components, whose main activities are presented below.
Component 1 - Institutional Strengthening, Equipment Acquisition and Operational Structuring
This component focuses on strengthening the CBMPA's operational capacity through the training of military firefighters and public agents, as well as the expansion of its operational fleet and the acquisition of equipment for the prevention and suppression of forest fires and unauthorized burning.
In this context, a technical exchange program was carried out with the participation of military personnel, and preparatory activities were initiated for the Forest Firefighting and Water Rescue Course (CCIFA).
The project also supported the expansion of the CBMPA's operational structure through the acquisition of eight Forest Fire Engine Tankers, 38 pickup trucks, and 38 rotomolded water tank kits with a capacity of 400 liters each.
Component 2 - Prevention, Suppression, Monitoring and Enforcement
This component aims to enhance the CBMPA's capacity for prevention, suppression, monitoring and enforcement through the training of public agents, volunteers and local community members, as well as the acquisition of equipment to support environmental monitoring and strengthen actions to address forest fires and unauthorized burning.
As part of the activities related to the development and implementation of an environmental education program focused on preventing unauthorized burning and reducing forest fires, 61 fire brigades were established across 41 municipalities, and 1,247 people were trained, including military personnel, public servants and members of civil society, of whom 329 were women. The training activities were complemented by environmental education and awareness-raising actions aimed at preventing unauthorized burning and forest fires.
The project also supported the strengthening of environmental monitoring activities through the acquisition of five drones for aerial mapping, monitoring of areas vulnerable to forest fires, and support for prevention, suppression and enforcement actions carried out by the CBMPA.
